essay ▄︻̷̿┻̿═━一.
“The internet has
given audiences much more power than ever before.” To what extent do you agree
with this statement?
I agree to this
statement to a decent effect since one of the reasons is that if the audience
doesn’t like a piece of media they can create their own with YouTube and Sound
Cloud. They even could make a career of making their own media by becoming
famous and well-known among the community.
The music industry is an example of a change.
Since, the audience can become producers and make their own music. Justin
Bieber gained fame of the website YouTube because the video he made went viral.
This is an advantage to the audience.
Disadvantages that
the audience has are that the music industry is never stable and there are
always new trends and the old ones die out. Another disadvantage is that big
music industries overshadow the small ones like the audience which renders
people from getting famous and getting their video to be viral.
The film and TV
industry has changed by you can watch shows at any time you want and can pause
them which was introduced by Netflix.
The advantages are
that you don’t have waited a certain time to watch a show or movie when you can
watch it anytime you want. You can also watch TV with your family anytime.
The disadvantages
are that you can watch too and lose track of time and spend less time with your
actual life. This term is known as “binge watching”.
The newspaper
industry has changed as less people buy newspapers and rather want to read it
online. It makes lots of newspapers companies go out of business but they try
to make the paper as interesting as possible so the audience will be intrigued
and be willing to buy it.
The advantages this
gives to the audience is that it gives the audiences information about what is
happening in the world and could entertain/amuse older audiences who doesn’t
know much about the media and being a journalist is a very fun job that could
be obtained by the audience.
The disadvantages
this gives to the audience is that they would rather watch media then read it
which makes less sales for the newspaper industry. Another disadvantage is that
there could be fake news on the newspaper and could lie to us. This theory is
known as the Hypodermic
Needle Theory which is the idea that audiences believe everything
you see. Lots of people think that the media brainwashes their audience and
that is why they don’t trust the media as much as they did before the theory.
In conclusion, I think the internet has given their audience way too much
power since they decide what goes viral or not and they can even be producers themselves
and make a career out of it. But, in some cases the media took advantage of the
audience by telling them fake news which had never happened. The power is
evened out between audience and the media.
