Reveal Magazine Blog Task


1) How many of the 12 magazine cover key conventions feature on this edition of Reveal? List them with specific reference to the convention on the CSP edition of Reveal.
The title, price, central image, cover lines, barcode, main flash, interview, quotes, photos, font, headlines and cropped images.
2) What is the font choice used on the cover and what does this choice connote? 
There is more sans serif used on the cover to connote the modern feel to the magazine.
3) How do the cover lines appeal to the Reveal target audience?
The cover lines appeal since the audience can relate to some of the cover lines and would want to find out more.
4) What are the connotations of the Reveal colour scheme on this particular front cover?
The connotations of the colour scheme are very feminine because of the pink and yellow being used.
5) How are images used to create interest in the magazine? Find three reasons for your answer. (E.g. mise-en-scene such as props, costume and make-up, body position, facial expression).
Most of the images are shot by paparazzi so this could make the audience feel like this magazine gives them all the exclusive content.


6) What differences can you find between the use of design and typography between Tatler and Reveal? List at least three and explain the effect on audiences.
One difference is that there is only one picture in Tatler and several in Reveal. This could mean Tatler wants to show their dominance. Another difference the titles were laid out different. To show how different the magazines are and what class they represent. The last difference is that Tatler gives a more cultural and posh feeling to it since the background is in nature and how the model was wearing expensive jewellery.
  
1) What type of celebrities appear on the front cover? How are they represented in Reveal? (Positive? Negative? Reinforcing or challenging stereotypes?)
A lot of singers and reality TV stars are on the front cover. They are represented as negative and positive since the title "stuff the diet" makes Kelly Brook look bad and how most images are paparazzi shots which doesn't respect the celebrity's privacy. The interview shows value and importance towards Lauren since it states "exclusive" which means they can't get this interview anywhere else.

2) How are women represented on the cover of Reveal? Think about both images and cover lines here. Women are represented as important since the target audience is other women too. One way is how there are more female models than male this shows the value of women.

3) How do Reveal and Tatler represent social class? (E.g. middle/upper class and working class) Reveal represents upper class because the language being used and the model were wearing expensive jewellery and the background were set in a particular way. Tatler represents working/middle class since there is a lot of slang being used like "stuff the diet" and there are more paparazzi shots then studio shots.

4) What would be the preferred and oppositional readings to this cover of Reveal?

The preferred reading is for the reader to see how cheap the magazine is and buy it. The oppositional reading is that someone (a rich person) could state how lower class this magazine is and think negatively about it.

Social and cultural context

1) What aspects of British life are reflected in Reveal? How does this compare to Tatler?

The aspects of British life reflected how British people have a bad diet and have problems with their love life and have a low income.


2) What do the cover lines in Reveal suggest about the issues and lifestyle of Reveal readers?

The issues of Reveal readers could be they have a lack of income and may have a bad diet. They may even have bad skin which explains the subline that is on the cover.

3) Find three other front covers for Reveal. What issues or features regularly appear in Reveal? 

Celebrity couples breaking up/ divorce, love life and there are lot of paparazzi shots being used.
