Newspaper essay question

‘Different newspapers address their audiences differently.’

How far is this true of The Times and the Daily Mirror (Close Study Products)?

I agree with the following statement since The Times and Daily Mirror portray their presentation of news and political views in various and different ways. An example of this point is that Daily Mirror uses more vast amounts of imagery compared to The Times. Also, Daily Mirror uses sans serif text to convey a more modern and friendly vibe towards their audience. Meanwhile, Times uses serif font to convey a formal and serious feeling to their audience. Daily Mirror is considered to be a "red top" and exhibits a massive amount of vibrant colour onto its pages. On the other hand, The Times remains colourless to tell their readers they are not messing around.

When it comes down to news, Daily Mirror takes a more delicate approach and writes their articles about soft news such as entertainment, gossip and celebrity. The Times takes a more serious and heavy-minded way and writes their articles about hard news such as politics, economics, international news and devastating events. Sometimes, The Times and Daily Mirror may cover an article on the same news but the way the news will be portrayed is vastly different. Daily Mirror want to relate to their audience and make them enjoy their articles by using informal language and comedic inferences while The Times goes into detail describing the event and trying to educate and inform their readers.

In the political ways, I think both newspapers try to stand up and write positively about their target audience. The Daily Mirror uses the quote "Fighting for you" which connotes that they are trying to protect their working-class target audience. The Times try to connect with their upper-middle class target audience by representing private schools in a very positive manner by saying they save taxpayer money. This makes a good influence on the Times's audience and a lower class who is in public school may not relate to this.

Overall, I agree with the statement deeply.
