Preferred reading of media is what the director wanted to convey to their audience.
Opposition reading of media is the opposite of what the director wanted to convey to their audience.
The preferred reading for the Harry Brown for young people is that they are violent and uncontrollable and for Harry Brown is that is a hero and people should support his side of the situation.
The media may think wrongly of young people because they could be nice and not violent all the day.
This will make young people feel the media is treating them in a wrong way.
McDonald's Advert
The preferred reading of this advert is that the creator wanted to tell us how nice and delicious the burger is.The opposition reading would be if it just looked like it did in the advert but in real life it looks worse or nothing like advert. The negotiated reading is that the taste could be nice and completely disown the look of it but it could be effects from Photoshop to change the way the burger is portrayed to the audience

The preferred reading of this advert is that the creator wanted to tell us how this snack is good for when you have breaks and the creator used a catchy quote so that makes kid want to buy it. The opposition reading is that there wasn't that much detail in the advert as the McDonald's one. The negotiated reading is that there doesn't that much detail and the more simple it is the easier is is more kids to understand and be lured into eating/buying the product.
